The Attica Group and the Hellenic Ornithological Society have joined forces for the protection of seabirds in Greek seas.

Since summer 2011, the Attica Group has been supporting public awareness actions carried out by the Hellenic Ornithological Society through the LIFE Project for seabirds. Information material on seabirds, the LIFE project and the importance of island and marine environment has been made available to passengers travelling on all vessels of Blue Star Ferries and Superfast Ferries to the Cyclades, Dodecanese and Crete.

Passengers of the Attica Group’s vessels sailing in the Aegean archipelago with have the opportunity to sail with and observe pelagic seabirds at open sea (Cory’s Shearwaters, Yelkouan Shearwaters and - with luck - European Storm Petrels) and coastal seabirds when approaching land (Audouin’s Gulls, Mediterranean Shags and Yellow-legged Gulls). A leaflet available at the reception desk will help passengers identify the different species of seabirds and at the same time allow them to contribute data to the census of seabird populations in Greece. A special observation form, attached to the leaflet, can be filled-in and handed in at the reception desk or else observations can be posted at the seabird project’s website www.ornithologiki.gr/seabirds.

Should you travel with one of the Blue Star Ferries and Superfast Ferries vessels, make a difference to your journey by observing seabirds and actively contributing to their population census in the Greek seas!

The action is part of Attica Group's Corporate Social Responsibility Program entitled “With you as our destination” which addresses to the islands served by the Group’s fleet through its vessels owing companies Blue Star Ferries & Superfast Ferries.
